‘THERE’s BEAUTY IN FLAWS’...... if you’re not convinced, take one look at burl wood, a material that’s trending in the chicest of interiors.

Burl wood is cut from large, wartlike growth on the trunk of the tree, which have a deformed grain, caused by some form of stress. The grain pattern typically resembles a series of eyes, circles or twirls laid side by side. Obviously the veneers leaf sizes are generally small and additionally are defective. While producing beautiful patterns, burl veneer is difficult to work with. Furniture pieces made with burl wood are rare, expensive and luxurious.

These flawed, bumpy areas yield a wood that’s cherished for its beauty, rarity, and peculiar discolored patterns and is much sought after for furniture designs and accessories. Popular in the Art Deco era, antique burl wood furniture tends to have a strong presence and sophisticated vibe, but is complimentary to many styles, from traditional to neo-modern settings.
